39+1 neuvola | 39+1 maternity clinic visit

Tomorrow (or today…) we’re having our last official maternity clinic visit right at 8am in the morning… It feels kinda boring to go there, since we also have scheduled visit to our hospital/maternity ward for Wed. 24th, when they will evaluste the situstion and, hopefully, also decide about the induction method.

And if they decide to go for it, we’re hoping that Mommy A (or both of us, since Mommy B has a 4 week vacation just started) can stay to the hospital, so we don’t have to come back home and wait like until the next morning, or clear constant contractions, to go back to the hospital. It’s only like 15-20mins by car, but since we’re now so far, it feels so stupid if we’d have to come back home (and only to notice that we gotta get back like 6h later…).

Mommy A has been having more or less mild contractions since last Saturday (July 13th), so we’re starting to be kinda tired with all this and would just love to have the baby NOW!
But we will be wiser on Wed. morning!

It’s like all this waiting is really “eating us alive”, since we have “the induction date” and the baby has already dropped into the right position last week. And we’ve been hoping that the labor would start naturally… Well, we have time until Wed. morning. But we have already, during the last few weeks, tried “all the tricks”… Our apartment has never been so clean 😀 Even the windows have been washed!

But we’ll just gotta wait and see. But three days have never felt so long!!! And concidering that we already have 272 days behind…

Viikko 39 | Week 39

Tänään on 38+3 eli hyvää vauhtia mennään jo viikkoa 39.

*********************************
We're now on week 39 (38+3) and from the info from maternity clinic visit today, the baby has now already very well dropped, so is at the right position. During the last weekend and Monday, Mommy A had mild and long (around like 20 minutes or so) contractions during the evening/night (like from 8pm to 3am). But the contractions were like a wave of constant pain without clear beginning or end. But we believe those made the baby drop lower (little by little).

But during yesterday and today, there have only been few little "contraction like" feelings (but with little or mild pain, so we know that these are not Braxton Hicks anymore…).

Due to the pregnancy diabetes, high BP and the size of the baby (which was measured 2 weeks ago to be around 3620g / 7.9lb) we have a set date for next Wed. July 24th to go to the hospital. And then there will likely to be a plan made for induction. Cause during our last visit 2 weeks ago, the doc said that with all of these factors included, they don't want to let the pregnancy to go over the due date (July 29th).

So basicly, there is a week left to wait if the contractions will start naturally for real and/or the "water will pop" (this is what we're hoping for!), or that the state stays the same and we'll have to wait a week and get one or two meds to start the contractions and the "whole show"!

But as we're hoping to go with labor as natural as possible and hope that we could avoid epidural, and use only gas and local pain meds, what ever those are called… (though considering how Mommy A feels, and what will be her pain level during different stages, she will be the one who will make the last call about meds!). But thats our starting point and if needed, there isn't any "no epidural"-ultimatum. The main thing is to ensure that both mommy and the baby will be safe and healthy and that all goes well!

So currently we're just waiting… And damn, how time can feel to go sooooo slow! But all we can do now, is to wait for the proper contractions to start. And with that, we could "avoid" that appointment next week and even finally meet our cute little "tummyalien" by then! ❤

And we’d finally have some interesting PICS to post other than just baby clothes and foggy ultrasound scans! Cause blog posts without pics are kinda boring to be honest! So then we can do just only pics-posts and no more “we’re so tired of waiting babble” 😀

Hello readers!

Since the beginning of our blog (fall 2012) there have been almost 34 000 page views from you and readers from over 60 countries from Colombia to South Korea!

And yet still we’re having just few comments here and there… Though we can’t know if you have found our blog just by accident and it wasn’t even about the topic you were searching for. Or were you really looking for information about rainbow/LGBTQ-families or how we “make babies” 🙂

We have some regular comment posters, some of who we know even better outside of our blog. But all of you others out there, we would LOVE to hear from you, especially if this blog has been informative or helpful or if you also have a rainbow family or you’re still planning, trying or currently pregnant or in adoption process!!! So please do comment! And all the posts comments you can see by clicking that “speech bubble” on the right side of the posts title.

And also comment, if you have your own (public) blog that we don’t yet have listed in our blog links. So we can add yours too!

We here are still waiting for contractions really to start! I (Mummy B) was born during the full moon and many believe that it is really true, that there is a labor peak during it 🙂 (gotta find some facts if there is some data about this is it really true or just one of those rumors you hear!).

But the next full moon in Finland would be on Mon. July 22nd and we have that “induction appointment” at the hospital on Wed. 24th. So we can make a guess will that appointment be needed or do we already have a baby by then 😀

Vauvanvaatteita… | More clothes for the little one

We found one more cute green/lime cameleon onesie for the baby. The black&white with clouds is older, but I don’t remember if we’ve posted a pic of it before. I recently also found a little cute “beanie” and 2 pairs of thin organic cotton socks. The thinner socks are nice for summer and the other pair can be used as mittens, so the baby wont scratch his/her skin with sharp fingernails.

We’re now om week 38 (37+3) and since baby is now already a “full term” we’re really hoping that the baby would come out before the June 24th when we have an appointment to find out about induction methods (cause they want the baby to born before DD (July 29th).

And the one who is waiting for it the most is Mommy A, cause during the last few weeks its been like +25c/77F here and it doesn’t help to be “extra bloated” (b/c of pregnancy and plus the weather!). And her sleeping isn’t anymore as stabe as it was like few months ago, cause now she’s up like at least 3 times per night (gotta go to the toilet, turn sround in bed etc.).

So we’re hoping that something will happen soon! 🙂 During this week she’s had few separate short (but real) contractions per day, so we hope that it’a sigh that its really starting to happen!

Viikko 37/38 | Week 37/38

We had a week 37 (36+3) check-up on July 3rd at the hospital (w/doc and midwife), and by ultrasound measurements, the baby already weights 3620g/7lb 15oz …! So it’s not gonna be a small one!

Though due to the gestational diabetes, they were talking that the pregnancy will be induced by/on due date (July 29th) if it doesn’t start naturally before that… And Mommy A’s BP was 145/95, so she’s gonna go to the maternity clinic twice a week for some more tests… (they said that only the high BP isn’t a sign of pre-eclampsia, but that’s why they are monitoring it now. And the urine test was ok.)

Though we knew that the baby isn’t gonna be a small (or short) one since Mommy A is 6’1″/185cm tall and the donor about 5’10”) but average weight at week 37 is normally 2800-3100g / 6lb 3oz – 6lb 13oz…

20130708-013447.jpg

On Saturday night (July 6th) we made “an emergency visit” to our hospital’s maternity ward, because Mommy A started having some pre-eclimpsia symptoms (mild headache, some vision blurring and cause she had some “puffyness” in her face/eyelids..even when she had been drinking enough fluids daily…). But after being at the monitors for like 45mins and after urine test and fetal heart rate monitoring, it turned out that everything was ok (and Mommy A’s BP had actually turned towards better, it was closer to normal 120/80 than it was few days earlier!), so we didn’t have to stay and spend the night there!

Though it has been (finally, dont know if its good/nice now at the moment and while being pregnant) hot/summer in here, +25c/ 77F and over, so that alone can cause “puffyness” and higher blood pressure…

But at least now we know, that if not sooner, the baby will born by July 29th. We have an appointment with the hospital doc and midwife on July 24th and then we’ll start to look for what’s the best option to start to induce the labour! So only 3 more weeks to go and our little one will be here! ❤

While we are excited, all this extra worrying has taken its tool on us! Either one of us haven’t had much energy to do anything during the last weekend (besides taking dogs for a walk and to the dogpark). And after all this, the idea of being awake every 2hrs to feed the baby (breastfeed or bottle) feels like “a piece of cake” cause then he/she will be with us (outside the womb 🙂 ) and we don’t have to worry about any pregnancy related problems anymore!

Helsinki Pride 2013

Here are some pics from today’s Helsinki Pride 2013 parade! Our “tummyalien” had a first pride experience today, though he/she doesn’t know it yet :D. Maybe next year we’ll be part of the parade too (today Mommy A was way too tired to walk much… Only 4 weeks left!).

Though her gaybybaby tummy got a lot of lovely attention today! And the weather was nice, not too hot and no rain!

And there were way more people than I’ve ever seen before (since….1997, I guess….). Tons of cool costumes, balloons, and cool Tom of Finland fans and “bear gays”.

And also many seniors and rainbow families. Even US Embassy was attending. I guess they were celebrating the end of DOMA and Prop8 in the US!

(Please do not copy any of these pics, if you wish to borrow/use some of these, do email us first, thanks!)
