Viikko 11 (10+4) ja sydänäänet dopplerilla <3 | Week 11 (10+4) & first heartbeat found w/home doppler <3

We’re now on week 11 (10+4) and we’re still having some time off from work until mid January, so some time to relax and time to have next ultrasound check-up on next week (11+5). That ultra visit will be more detailed, the first of two structural ultrasounds (the 2nd will be durin weeks 19-21).

Our friend loaned us her home home doppler (Angelsounds fetal heart detector). We were exited and tried to test it last week, but we were “way up high” and the sound the machine gave (along with Mommy A’s own heartbeat) we’re more like sound you might expect to have from outer space with radio transmitter (like you’ve seen in the movies🙂

But tonite we decided to try again, and with some instructions from the internet, we were able to catch that little heartbeat❤ (and its only week 11 now!!!). It took some time an patience, and to search from low enough (just above "the hairline"), not move the doppler too fast and use little pressure (not too much) instead just sliding it over the skin (that will find the sound later, I guess…), but after like 5 minutes of searching, we found the little heartbeat and it was good & strong 162-164/bpm!❤

Our "little alien" didn't seem to be very happy about this, because we were able to hear the sound like 15 seconds and then it was lost, and I had to catch it again… or the fetus was having his/her "night time party" there and wasn't able to stay still (just like at the first ultrasound, little hands and feet already moving around❤😀 . But now we know that everything is ok, and we try not to listen those sounds every night… Like twice a week is enough🙂

But it is indeed very magical to hear that sound at home, withou going somewhere there is a doctor and you will have just limited time b/c doc has to do all the measurements etc. But with home doppler you can listen it when ever you feel like it (and this model also allows to use it with headphones and there is cable (normal 3,5mm plug) which you can connect to your computer and record that sound if you wanna go so high tech🙂

And the doppler isn't so expensive as you might think, webstores seem to sell it at about $30 price tag… But also buying a used one can work (if you can test that it works) or loan from a friend!

  1. Congratulations! It sure is nice to be able to check in on baby a few times a week. I got to use a friend’s during my 10th week and then bought my own used a little while later. I haven’t felt the need to use it much now that I can feel him moving all the darn time. Warning though that you can hear two heart beats as well as other things like mom’s heart or the placenta sounds. I had a bit of a freak out when I repeatedly heard two heart beats.

    • Yep, we already also found mom’s heartbeat, but there was only one clear over 160bpm (and that wasn’t moms😀 , she’s not that stressed yet…). I think doppler will be more like for these weeks from 11 to near 20’s until you can feel the movements. But it’s also nice to chech HB once in a while, just to make sure that everything is ok and it also calms the mom (well, both of us🙂 )
